hi there
I just found out about this great software but the problem is that I use almost exclusively .cue file based cd rips and can't get CAD to update the covers when I load a different .cue file.
the best .cue plugin for winamp I know is Cue Player 0.5b. But this only works by opening the cue files with winamp instead of opening the actual audio files. then the plugin 'generates' virtual tracks in the playlist window.
the probem is that CAD
- doesn't load any cover when I open a .cue file with winamp.
- doesn't update the cover when I open a diferent .cue file
- doesn't even update the cover when I change tracks within a .cue file.
it does however load the right cover when I manually use the "cover » reload" feature.
can anyone help me?
thanks for this great software.
PS: by the way, would it be possible to use covers as a background for the playlist window? I'm trying to do that myself by putting CAD (only cover skin) behind a translucent cue-generated playlist. the cover is translucent too. this way:
- I can always see what's behind the cover/playlist;
- I can always see the cover with good quality;
- I can see enough of the playlist to read it and can always hover the mouse over it to make it opaque and select a new track.

.cue
I never used such file. Can you send me the plugin link? What's the easiest way to make a .cue?
cover as background
CAD is not a "real" Winamp plugin. So it's not possible for CAD to add background to the playlist. It is a task for a "real" Winamp plugin.

plugin link: http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=143011
the easiest way to make a .cue is.... to download an album with one
I think EAC makes them when ripping but to save you the trouble you can download a small mp3 & cue just for testing here:
http://amorim.planetaclix.pt/1.cue
http://amorim.planetaclix.pt/1.mp3
just install the plugin and open the.cue file.
cue files are widely used specially for dj sets and lossless rips.
thanks!!

sorry, it's the same thing :( exactly as I described before.
(By the way, I just overwrited the existing .exe, I suppose that's the only thing I have to do.)

Strange, it's working here with the .cue file you linked.
Were you using CAD RC5 before?
What's your Winamp version?

I got the a CUEPlayer beta that works with the last Winamp version.
http://etono.cplusplus.se/cueplay/downloads.xml
I was able to to make it work with CAD at home too.
Please, try again and check the CAD version you're using.

I'm using winamp 5.31, the most recent CAD (the build 153 you posted) and that new beta from cue player (I didn't it was out, thanks!). I was using cueplayer before I was using CAD.
that said, after completely uninstalling (& deleting the winamp folder) and reinstalling winamp and all the plugins it still doesn't work. sometimes it works but in a completely random way... I couldn't find any 'pattern'.
and I've tested it in everyway I can :?
If there's no solution I'd be (kind of) happy with CAD reloading the cover when I double-click the tray icon. I think double-clicking it doesn't do anything.
I guess if the cueplayer developer could make it work we one opens the audio file, then the problem with CAD would be solved...

(1) First go to CAD "Control Panel>Troubleshooting" and check the first two settings. Try CAD again.
(2) If (1) didn't work:
Try the test build below. Now an extension in upper case (.CUE) will be recognized but I don't think this is the only problem.
By the way, you should see the path of the current cue file (*).
(*) e.g.: C:\Mp3\Artist\1.cue,1
The cover art is in "C:\Mp3\Artist\" folder.
Tell me what you see when it works and when it does not work.

hello
thanks for all the feddback so far.
all the images are in the same folder as the cue & audio file. the images are all 'folder.jpg' and the audio and cue files have the same name.
well, (1) just didn't work: everything stayed the same.
then I replaced the .exe for the new one. the behaviour hasn't changed (appart from the new pop up). here's what I see:
- when I open an audio file I get "C:\Mp3\Artist\cdimage.mp3", the file plays and right cover is shown; if I now re-open the same file I get no message and the cover stays.
- when I open a .cue file I get "C:\Mp3\Artist\cdimage.cue,1", the file plays with the cue list loaded and the cover stays the same as it was before i opened the .cue (if it was blank it stays blank, if it had a cover loaded it stays there);if I now re-open the same cue file I get no message and the cover still stays the same.
- when I change track inside a .cue I get "C:\Mp3\Artist\cdimage.cue,#" where # is the track number; cover still stays as it was before.
- another test: I'm playing a cue and exit CAD and winamp. then open a different cue: the cue is loaded and I get "C:\Mp3\Artist\cdimage.cue,#" relative to the file and track I was playing before I closed both programs; I click OK and get "C:\Mp3\Artist\cdimage.cue,1" relative to the new file; cover stays blank...
again, thanks for all the work
regards

I didn't see anything strange in the tests results.
Did you enable CuePlayer playlist setting (in Winamp Preferences)?
Finally, please send your CAD "settings.ini" (in a zip/rar file) to support@closetosoftware.com

email sent.
All the options in cue player are ON.
just as I was preparing to send the email it worked once :?
couldn't make happen again.

Thank you.
I think I found the problem.
I made a .cue from an artist (not a compilation) and I was able to reproduce the bug.
You have now two ways to make it work:
1) go to "Winamp Preferences>General Preferences>Titles" and write the following advanced title formatting:
[%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) - [%album%]
NOTE that just " - [%album%]" is added to the default Winamp formatting. This will let CAD gets the Album name too. It's the solution for FLAC or other audio format rather than mp3 or ogg.
2) go to CAD "Control Panel>Troubleshooting" and check the first setting (it should work most of the times).
If you have any problem try both solutions together.

FANTASTIC!!
it's working perfectly!
I just followed the instructions on the readme and it started working perfectly. after that it was just fine tuning:
I have disabled the first setting in troubleshooting so that it doesn't keep reloading the cover when changing tracks within the same cd/cue. but then it didn't work so I used the [%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) - [%album%] thing and it worked perfectly.
I don't even need to have winamp 'always on top' because CAD gives me all the info I need. then just double click the cover to view winamp! with the 'album list' plugin.
to make it perfect the only thing left is controling playback: play/pause/stop/next/previous buttons. also the progess bar could work just like the winamp one. If I've undestood correctly, right clicking on the bar rewinds some 20sec and left clicking does..something I can't understand :? like rewinding 1 or 2sec.
anyway, maybe that's too far off but it's probably something you've tought of already
Again, thanks for all the work, it's perfect now!
regards!

Don't forget that you have invisible playback buttons on the bottom of case/cover area:
bottom left = previous
bottom middle = play/pause (right click to stop)
bottom right = next
Left click the progress bar to advance; right click to rewind (something like that).

wow! fantastic!
the buttons on the cover work great but the progress bar isn't very 'friendly', specially the rewind function. still, it's better than nothing.
but I just can't help dreaming about that working just like winamp's progress bar (selecting a specific position).

The progress bar improvement is in my to do list.
Not that simple.
Maybe after 1.0 final I'll take a look at it.

Don't forget that mouse wheel on case/cover area turns volume up/down! :)

yes, I'm not a programer but I know sometimes small things take a lot of effort & time

you keep surprising me :D
to be honest I don't need it because I only use the digital out from the PC to an external DAC & amp so I never control the volume trough the PC.

Hello
I'm using AIMP 2 player from Russia ( http://aimp.ru/index.php?action_skin_change=yes&skin_name=english )
My problem is that CAD doesn't load any cover when I open a .cue file with my AIMP.
In Options>Troubleshooting I had checked the first and second settings - Cad doesn't displays cover.
I have CAD 2.0 Beta 1 Build 629.
Please help me. CAD is really great software, and I want to use it.
Excuse me for my bad English :-D

You'd have to try ActiveWinamp plugin for that.
However, CAD will search for such plugin in Winamp plugins folder. So I'm not sure it'll work for AIMP2 after all.
Support for another player is not planned right now.

Where AIMP2 stores its plugins (full folder name)?
Does AIMP2 save its path in windows registry like Winamp?
