View Full Version : Having trouble reading ID3v2 embedded art

Hi there,

Just found this program a few days ago, and it's fantastic -- I love the versatility of it. Pretty much don't even really need to use Winamp anymore except to have it running in the background, thanks to this software!

However, I seem to be having trouble with it. My case might be a bit unusual. I have an iPod that syncs with my computer at work, and holds most of my music. I'm running iTunes 7.0.2 on that, and use that to tag all my MP3 files with their respective artwork. However, for some reason, CDAD only pulls it from those files with about a 50% success rate. Any idea what might be causing this? I'm running Winamp 5.3, just so as you know.

Also, if I might make a suggestion, would it be possible to include support in the automatic download options for the site discogs.com? It's a user-contribution-built website that started off tracking mainly electronic music, and has expanded over the years to include music of a lot more genres. It's really handy for finding cover art to some of the more obscure tunes in a collection. Just a thought :)

Cheers and keep up the good work!

Take care,
- Chris Purity

What CAD build are you using? Try RC6 preview please:

http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/cadrc6prev.zip

In addition:

1. iTunes will give you a better success rate reading ID3 cover tag (well, because iTunes will read the tag instead CAD);

2. iTunes doesn't follow ID3 standards that MAY cause CAD module to not read tags properly;

3. CAD uses a third party module to read a cover tag and it's not updated anymore (a new and updated one could help a lot but nothing new lately);

4. You can also follow this topic regarding ID3 cover tag issue: http://closetosoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164

Thank you for your feedback! :)

Yep, read that thread last night, and I went ahead and installed the RC6 preview. Same results unfortunately.

I could send you some examples of which ones are working and which ones aren't, if you'd like. It's just bizarre to me because I've used the same program to add all the cover art and it's only working halfway.

Thanks,

That'll be great.

Please send me one you're sure that never worked with CAD.

Hey first off what a great piece of software. Nice to have my embedded album art show in Winamp. This way the album art looks better than Itunes and uses less resources.

So I also noticed some of my embedded art wasn't displaying. After checking out the tags it appears that all my songs with 'ID3: V2.2' tags do not display.

The 'ID3: V2.3' tags display fine.

I am using the R6 preview btw with songs being played off my IPOD. Not sure if it works with other versions.

Chris,

brownstonemr is right.

CAD can't read cover embedded in a ID3v2.2 tag. At least ID3v2.3 is necessary.

I remade the "submerge.mp3" tag and CAD read the cover. I've used the freeware mp3Tag to do so:

OK, thanks for the tip! I'll see what I can do about converting my files to ID3v2.3 tomorrow and hopefully it'll work. Cheers!

Take care,

Just did a test run of it with submerge.mp3 and it does appear to work properly now -- will run this on my entire collection tomorrow then, thanks again! :)

Well the method I am using now is:

Run Mp3tag. Browse to my physical Ipod/Ipod Control folder to list tracks. Ipod Control may be a hidden folder that u will have to un-hide.

Hit the column tab to list in order of album tag version.

Then go into Itunes and highlight album then go Advanced/Convert ID3/V2.3.

I couldn't find a simple convert button with mp3tag and doing it with itunes is just as easy. Just couldn't find a way to list the id3 tags with itunes. :)

Here I just select the files and press Save button. Nothing more! :)
