Your Desktop with CAD on it

I just came up with the idea of a topic where people can post screenshots of their Desktop showing CAD.

You can write a few sentences to your Desktop theme or something else, if you want to.

Okay, let's go, this is my Desktop showing CAD:

I was in the mood for something blue, so I modified my Desktop. Normally, I prefer black Desktops.

- The Wallpaper you can see is called "The Bait N.C."
- The Miranda skin is "Ayofe"
- The Visual Style is "Plex Style II"

and finally:

- The CAD skin is Lucid White


Probably, I will add a Windows Vista screenshot, too.

hi my fellowCADlovers!

here's a screeny of my 2nd display placed on the right of my main monitor.
no issues with CAD in dual-monitor-constellation by the way.
as you can see, there are lyrics scrolling in karaoke-style.
MiniLyrics is responsible for that. i definetly recommend that for lyric-enthusiasts or casual-singers :D ,because it is highly customizable and should serve almost any need.
at the bottom there is an ObjectDock statusbar with the CAD-icon in focus. dued to resolution issues a switch-on in CAD's "show cover in statusbar" option would look really messy here, so i had to switch that off. :(
i wonder if "DON" Carlos would be able to develop a solution. perhaps an ObjectDock plug-in (or docklet as they're called).
but even if he doesn't.....he's still a hero for me.

for that mirror effect go to CAD's ControlPanel >> Effects >> Cover Mirror
and apply "40%" for "Size:" and "1x" to "Strength:"

i don't know if its there by default, but in CAD's ControlPanel >> Effects >> "increase and adjust the area for mirror/rotation",
there's also a value of "47" applied to "Height:"

the text settings i made are a bit hard to explain. if you're interested, leave a pm with your mail-adr and i'll send you the "skin.ini"

Here's mine :
Done with WindowBlinds & DesktopX.
WB theme and wallpaper is Azenis2 by yingjunjiu (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41386766/)
The rest of the theme is tweaked with DesktopX by me.
The two circles around the blue orb are turning. One CW and the other CCW. The blue orb rollover is a big boomer and when i click it, it lauches Foobar2000. Some rollover with fade in and glow on the icons. The other texts on the right open up drop down menus with apps or files/folders shortcuts.

This is a screenshot of my 27" TV I use as my secondary monitor. Besides watching movies, it also doubles as an excellent place to put CAD. ;D My roommates were always squinting at my primary monitor trying to see the smaller skin I was using. you're right the skin you mentioned is not part of our gallery.
for no particular reason actually.

i haven't tested the skin, but since this is a pre-1.0-skin it might be necessary to fix some text alignments and positions.

I think this one is delicious. The background changes every 10 minutes and displays random coverart using THIS app (http://woohoo.student.utwente.nl/projects/last.fm/) by Gijsco (read the faq pages to set it up properly, also, you need last.fm for it. Alternatively you could use THIS (http://www.mediafire.com/?enjcfmgwa1x) app by m2c4u on the neowin forums, it works natively with either WMP or iTunes, but is kinda buggy.

Both apps support dual monitor setups

For CDA i use a custom version of the iSome skin by myself.

if you're referring to the ObjectBar-like thingy at the top edge, it's actually a widget for the Yahoo!Widgets engine (formerly known as konfabulator) called Informer.

This Widget monitors your system resources (CPU usage, disk usage, memory usage, swap usage, system uptime, WiFi, battery life, Recycle Bin/Trash), Internet resources (RSS feeds, IMAP4/POP3 MailBoxes and Gmail Inbox), etc., and displays it on your desktop.

it is highly customizable in terms of font, color, skin, sensorpositions, icons..... well, just about anything. :D

and best of all, it's freeware. ;D

so, go ahead.....check it out. ;)

actually no, i am more interested in everything else! my system is a bit old, so i find that yahoo widgets uses too much memory. i try to stay away from samurize and desktopx and avedesk and all the rest. i used avetunes until i found cd art display, which is obviously much better :) so now the only thing i use is objectdock, a few shell extensions, and a some hacks... oh, and my favorite - launchy!

but back to your desk - i am guessing the bar on the bottom is object dock or rocket dock or rk launcher or one of those...

but what about the tiny little tabs in the bottom corners? i can see the right one says 'tray'... i assume that brings up your system tray? very cool. i can't read the left one though...

and no taskbar - do you just rely on alt-tab for task switching?

sorry for all the questions, but i've been working for ages to put together a good desktop setup, and it looks like i could learn something form you! i used emerge desktop for a while, but now i'm back to a heavily modded explorer again, i just can't get used to not having the taskbar around...

I know it looks nothing at all like the Informer along the top, but it had been a while since I fooled around with it and I figured maybe that it had been updated to be much more customizable.

I'm assuming the dock at the bottom is RocketDock? Y'know, I just can't get into the dock thing...I try my damndest, but they never do much for me.

so... i decided to try samurize! normally i don't go for these kinds of things but i was bored. i'm actually really excited with what i got. it's very useful! i'm running a shell replacement and it integrates very nicely with samurize. it's a (sort of) clean, minimalist desktop (by my standards), but it has so many clickable linky things on it that i can get to everything with ease.

oh, and thaframe, with some font adjustments, looks really cool with my setup!

White), which includes the 'thing' on the upper right corner of my lappy ... if I can remember the name of it, it's the Evo Corner WeekDay Blue. Thanks for the compliment mate!

It's not totally finished, tho. I need to do some finetuning with the Dock and maybe I will add reflections to the icons. I did some quick tests yesterday, but the icons looked somehow tiny. Any ideas how to circumvent this problem?

it seems you're the only one who's still using that good old Avalon Companion. :D
looks really nice under that taskbar btw.

regarding the reflected icons...
...well, as you already know icons come in square aspect ratios (i.e. 128x128 or 512x512) and chances are that most of the displayed icons are using as much of this square area as possible.
now when you'd like to apply a mirror effect to such icon while keeping the original document width/height you'd have to shrink and move that icon up a little in order to gain some space to where that mirror effect could be added.
that's why the final icon would obviously appear smaller than before.

by the way, if you'd like to spare yourself some time and effort you can try using iReflector by SirSmiley (link) (http://sirsmiley.deviantart.com/art/iReflector-61284589).
he created a DesktopX widget for exactly the purpose of adding reflections to regular png icons.

don't worry, it's a standalone widget so you don't need to have (or install) DesktopX.
just read the instructions and doubleclick the exe. ;)

Haha, it's all right Sensai. BTW, it's not just words floating around on my desk, it's kinda desktop icons thingy. Yes, it's clickable and FYI it's skin-able, and AveDesk is the name of the software. Here's the link to AveDesk's website: http://www.avedesk.org/avedesk/

OK,here goes,i'm not very technically minded but will do my best.I haven't got a clue how to make a CAD skin but am enthralled by the creations on here.

The very first exposure to AveDesk had caused me pain in the ass since I'm not that techs weirdo, but luckily some generous gecko posted the tutorials online ... more like "AveDesk for Dummies" lol. Not much that I've pimped my desk for this September, just spruced some things off here and there and changed the walls. Still retain the C O R E System Concept for now. Love the vivid colors with centralized contour in the middle, so that's enough for me.

in fact modding an existing skin is the very first step of becoming a skinner.
at least that's how i started. :)
the good thing about modding is that you can quickly familiarize with all the filenames and the skin structure (functionality) in general.
first you move around some elements via the skin editor and before long you'd eventually start to exchange some graphics with some other skins graphics or even with some of your own creations.
it's a step by step learning experience. :D

when it comes to actually creating some graphics i can only recommend to check out as much photoshop tutorials as possible.
there are countless tuts available in the web and often they're even categorized by skill status so it should be easy to find the right thing to play around with. ;)

I'll trade you. ::) I dunno, Vista's not NEARLY as bad as most people make it out to be...but it's still pretty bad, haha. In fact, CAD and one small problem with games (Steam Friends chat, if you're interested) are amongst the only things keeping me from making the full switch to Linux. :-/

@ eek: If you have XP, you can actually remove the Start button without doing all the Visual Styles stuff...note that it will NOT work with Vista.

I only found CAD today, I love it! Much smoother than Avetunes and allows for greater effects on the album artwork. Would be nice if you could hide iTunes when it's loaded ala Avetunes though.
