If I drag a new MP3 file onto WinAmp, CAD refreshes and displays the new artist, title and track info, but it doesn't update the cover art unless I manually select Cover \ Reload.

Is this fixed in a newer build??

I saw a reference to RC4 build 150 (I'm using 132 right now). How can I get the newest build??

I'll have to investigate this issue. It was never reported before.

Anyway, you can download the last build here (just unzip and copy the new CAD.exe into CAD's folder):

:::::Edited:

When I drag a file on Winamp the file is NOT played automatically. When I play it (double click it on playlist) the cover is updated too.

I just loaded build 185 and when I drag an MP3 file onto WinAmp, CAD refreshes and displays the new artist, title and track info, but it doesn't update the cover art unless I manually select Cover \ Reload. The old art from the previous playing song is still displayed until I manually reload the cover. :?

This problem occurs whether a song is currently playing or not. Also, when I drag an MP3 file onto WinAmp it automatically starts playing.

Doubleclicking on the song in the playlist doesn't update the cover art either...I have to manually select Cover \ Reload. :(

I'll try to reproduce the issue but so far I couldn't.

My Winamp does not start playing when I drag files. I have to double click the file and all works fine.

Is there anything I can give you to help research the problem? Winamp settings, preferences, plug-ins, versions, etc?

Description of Problem:
When I drag an MP3 onto WinAmp, it automatically starts to play. :)
CD Art Display updates with the correct Artist, Track & Album information. :)
The CD cover does not update, and just shows the previous cover. :(
If I select "Cover \ Reload" or "Control Panel \ Apply", CD Art Display updates and shows the correct cover. :?
Troubleshooting Steps:
I completely un-installed WinAmp (I even deleted the C:\Program Files\WinAmp\ folder).
I completely un-installed CD Art Display (I even deleted the C:\Program Files\CD Art Display\ folder).
I reinstalled WinAmp v5.23
I reinstalled CD Art Display RC4, and then copied in build 185 of CAD.EXE.
I even tried embedding the Cover Art (jpg) in the ID3v2 tag
Other Info:
My MP3's are in different folders.
I am not using any WinAmp Plugins.
All of my CD cover jpg's are in the C:\Program Files\CD Art Display\Covers\ folder.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Can I provide any more info?

Wow... All of that seems pretty standard, I have no clue why it doesn't work for you.

What happens if you have a playlist and winamp goes (after the song is done) to the next song? Does CAD load the new cover? What happens if you manually skip the song?

f00fighter,

I've tested the drag thing in two PCs. None played the song automatically and both showed the cover properly.

I've made a special version that will create a Log.txt in CAD's folder. Use it just for this test then back to the normal version.

1) Clear Winamp's playlist and close it
2) Start CAD
3) Start Winamp
4) Drag a file and let it play a few seconds
5) go to CAD's folder and open the Log.txt
6) copy its content and paste in a post here or send me the file (zip please).

OK, here's what I did:
1) Cleared Winamp's playlist and closed it
2) Started CAD
3) Started Winamp
4) Dragged a file onto WinAmp and let it play a few seconds (the Artist & Album info is shown by CAD and the correct cover art is displayed)
5) Dragged a different file onto WinAmp and let it play a few seconds (the Artist & Album info is shown by CAD but the cover art is NOT updated)
6) Dragged the first file onto WinAmp and let it play a few seconds (the Artist & Album info is shown by CAD but the cover art is NOT updated)
7) Dragged the second file onto WinAmp and let it play a few seconds (the Artist & Album info is shown by CAD but the cover art is NOT updated)
Interesting that txtAlbum is only listed once. Perhaps that is the problem? Thanks for taking the time to help me troubleshoot this issue!!

WOO HOO!! It works now! Thanks Carlos!!!:D

What did you have to change in build 220 to fix this?
(just curious)

First of all thank you for your patience! :)

CAD checks path changes now (not only album tag) in order to change or not the cover.

Carlos - You said:

Does this mean that the cover art would NOT change if I have MP3's from different artists in the same folder with the same album tag as shown below?? :?:

For example:
- I use the following file naming pattern based on the ID3v2 tags of the song: [artist] - [album] - [title].mp3
- I use the following cover art pattern: [artist] - [album].jpg
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Jones - Liveset - Club ABC (April 2006).mp3
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Jones - Liveset - DEF Niteclub (Feb 2006).mp3
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Smith - Liveset - Club DEF (Jan 2006).mp3
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Smith - Liveset - GHI Niteclub (April 2006).mp3
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Jones - Liveset.jpg
C:\Music\Various DJs\DJ Smith - Liveset.jpg
Do I have to re-organize my files as shown below to get this to work? :?:
C:\Music\DJ Jones\DJ Jones - Liveset - Club ABC (April 2006).mp3
C:\Music\DJ Jones\DJ Jones - Liveset - DEF Niteclub (Feb 2006).mp3
C:\Music\DJ Smith\DJ Smith - Liveset - Club DEF (Jan 2006).mp3
C:\Music\DJ Smith\DJ Smith - Liveset - GHI Niteclub (April 2006).mp3

I think so... Fisrt CAD will compare the album tag of the last played song with the current song. If they're different then CAD will search for a local cover.

If the album is the same then CAD will compare the folder (path without filename) of the last song with the current one. Again if different, even if the album tag is the same, CAD will change the cover.

If everything is the same (album tag and path) then CAD will not change the cover.

This procedure will avoid a cover change everytime a new song is played which can be annoying if fade in is on. In addition, less CPU will be used form song to song from the same album.

OK, I guess that logic makes sense for the majority of CAD users playing full albums from a single artist.

Thanks for all your help...now I better get busy re-arranging my MP3's!!

Hey Carlos -

Maybe you could add an option to "Refresh cover on every song change?" (default = no)

This would solve my problem without having to totally rearrange my MP3 collection!!

Carlos

Try build 221 but add the following line in CAD's settings.ini

RefreshCover=1

Hey Carlos -

How about adding a new option to the Read Cover section of the CAD Control Panel that allows users to configure what changes will force CAD to look for a new cover?

Look for new cover on change to:
[X] Album (default)
[ ] Artist
[ ] Title
[ ] Path

This would give all users the flexibility they need to get CAD to work best with the structure & organization of their MP3 collection.

Thanks again for all your help!!

I'll add if more users need this kind of feature.

But CAD is working for you now, isn't it?

f00fighter
06-14-2006, 02:22 PM
Yes, CAD is working like a charm now! :D

I just thought other users might like the added option of telling CAD when to update the cover.

Thanks again Carlos. Your help & dedication to CAD is much appreciated!
