CD Art Display RC4 Build 398 (19 Jul 2006)

- CADPinHelper module added (*)
- Bugs fixed and some improvements added (**)

(*) This module will be started once CAD is pinned to desktop and it's useful if explorer crashes then CAD will be restarted after all. Without the new module CAD just stops working.

(**) See previous build topic for details

http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/cadrc4b398.zip

Copy the new CADPinHelper in the same CAD folder. If you don't want to use it just don't copy it.

So, the CADPinHelper isn't really a program or anything we can see?

It's an invisible program.

If you use CAD pinned then it can be useful in case Explorer crashes.

Anyway, it's an option. You don't HAVE to use it.

Carlos, as an alternative to the CADPinHelper, could you add code to the main CAD exe, so that it checks for a previous instance (if the program is already running) and if it is, kill that one and leave the new one running?

That way, if explorer crashes, I could just run CAD again, and I wouldn't have to worry about terminating the old process before running a new instance. :)

It's not possible. :)

once the program crashes, it can't do anything. that's why a new program is required.

The program doesn't crash. Explorer does. The problem is that a new Explorer is launched, and CAD can't pin itself to the desktop anymore.

My suggestion was not to make CAD do something, but to launch a NEW CAD. The new CAD would kill the old useless CAD, and pin itself to the new explorer.

It's not possible. :)
Okay. I wrote a batch file that does exactly what I wanted, so I've added it to my CAD folder and made a shortcut in the start menu. I'm happy now

i disagree with the first statement you made. CAD most surely crashes when i kill explorer because when i also exit foobar2000(CAD is set to exit when the player exits), CAD does not exit and continues to remain openned.

yeah that's pretty much what the new file does :)

edit: also, here to report a little bug. i've already reported this but might as well post it here too :)

anyways, sometimes, when i play a FLAC or WavPack file, the info of the file is not shown. only the filename of it is shown. here is what i mean by that.

this only happens sometimes when i launch CAD. if i exit CAD and then launch it again, it is fixed. dunno what causes it but might as well post it.

1) CADPinHelper

What bothers noroom is to have another process running, that's why he did the batch.

But the important thing here is that the CADPinHelper does not use CPU so it won't be a problem. Anyway, CADPinHelper is an option.

2) FLAC

I find a way to show the Album tag when the file is not a mp3 or ogg.

But first you have to change the Winamp title setting: got to "Winamp preferences>Titles" and write the following Advanced Title Formatting:

[%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) - [%album%]

CAD already use the first two parts to show artist and title when there isn't a tag and now it will use the third part to display the Album info from Winamp.

I think it's worth to at least try it. The search cover feature will also work better this way.

Some titles or artist name that has a " - " (including spaces) may cause a wrong reading but nothing is 100% perfect! :)

the Winamp title code that you gave me doesn't really work great. it does show the album but it puts it in CAD's artist place.

edit:nvm. i was using an old build. anyways, if that FLAC/WavPack problem occurs again, i'll let you know :).

srry for double posting but there's yet another bug. while running CAD, i was playing a song called "Das Alte Leid - Rammstein". now when i switched the song to "Rock You like a Hurricane"(which had absolutely NO tags), the coverart remained and it said rammstein for some reason. here's a screenshot of this happening.

edit:also, Rock You Like a Hurricane had no rating. basically all the info from Das Alte Leid was taken and put into the next song.

Can you check your tag? This information is taken from Winamp.

Mangix,

OK. I fixed an issue and an old one backed. :(

But I think it's working now! :)

By the way, tag your files!! :D

hi there,

im new to this forum. just installed your latest build and had build 1 before that.

i got some issue with stealing focus on track change.
means, when the itunes track is changing to the next track my focus is stolen by the CDA window. is that a know "bug" ? i couldnt find anything related in this forum yet.

next im a little concerned about the memory usage, after like 1 hour it has 25 mb in my task-manager.

last thing, when the "search" window popups and i press the "go" button my whole screen is locked until it finds a cover on amazon.

i hope it helps, no matter what, this software is really awesome and worth recommending.

regards, tom.

1) focus = it isn't normal and it does not happen here (testing in 3 PCs)

2) memory usage = such value may occur after lots of cover search but it's nothing that Windows can't take back; most of the times CAD uses 7.5MB (in my 3 PCs)

3) entire screen? really? maybe you're using some desktop tool that is not compatible with CAD, because it's really strange.

Try this:

1) uninstall CAD

2) install the last Visual Basic run-time:
VB Run-time SP6 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7b9ba261-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&DisplayLang=en)

3) install CAD again and copy the last build

4) try to close some unecessary program (some desktop software or third party task manager and so on)

5) make another test
