CAD RC4 Build 547 (23Aug06)

- "Control Panel>Options": Check Check song title and path too (*)
- "Control Panel>Options": Enable CAD Pin Helper (**)

(*) check this so CAD will also check path changes (not only song title changes); it was the default CAD procedure but there are some issues with Winamp playlist (a bug in Winamp by the way); in addition, this option as the "Refresh cover after track change" can be useful for some users due the way songs are organized; both options are disabled by default

(**) CADPinHelper.exe was added to restore CAD from an Explorer crash when CAD was pinned to the desktop; if you disable it and use CAD pinned you have to manually end CAD (from task manager) and start it again.

this build runs quite smooth (without the helper). the only flaw left is the memory consumption. if you could optimize it ... maybe by just freeing the memory of the last thumb on track change ?

keep up the good work with this great project carlos !

Hi tomyeah,

I'll try to review some procedures.

However, here in my system (after 48h) CAD is using 9MB RAM which is reasonable.

Do you have cover embedded (ID3v2 tag)?

Do you make a lot of cover search?

What skin are you using?

Carlos:

This build is working great for me. Thanks so much for taking my suggestion into account. I love being able to have this on my desktop as a super icon. Really, really great.

hey carlos,

im using the default "case" skin with some repositionings and diffrent fonts.

yes im using ID3v2 tags with embedded covers (up to 512x512 pixels). in one hour playback there are like 3-5 cover searches.

after one hour of playback it comsumes like 16-20 mb in memory. for such a helper tool id expect something like 2-5 mb at maximum ...

thanks, regards, tom.

tomyeah,

It's probably because the ID3v2 cover tag.

I use a third party module to read that.

The way some covers are embedded cause the module to use more memory than necessary in order to read them. I was not able to find the reason. But I'll try to see what I can do.

However, the memory used by CAD (that is shown in task manager) can be used by Windows if system needs it. So it won't affect your system overall performance unless you have like 256MB RAM total.

Thank you for your feedback!

when i was replacing the new CAD.exe, i found out that there was an errorlog file with the following info. #2006-07-31 19:55:15#,"52","Bad file name or number","frmTheme","cmdOk_Click","CD Art Display v1.0.500"
#2006-07-31 19:55:34#,"52","Bad file name or number","frmTheme","cmdOk_Click","CD Art Display v1.0.500"
#2006-07-31 19:56:46#,"52","Bad file name or number","frmTheme","cmdOk_Click","CD Art Display v1.0.500"
so what could be causing that?

I was having this problem documented here (http://closetosoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=74) and followed the fix given which was to delete part or all of the .ini file. This did indeed bring back the cover.

The only difference with me is that I am using the most current build. I do have 2 monitors and the art display is on my secondary monitor. It works fine as long as I do not select pin to desktop. It will pin it, I just think it pins it somewhere other than on the monitor....

No amount of "un-pinning" will seem to bring it back. It will also still disappear if I have lock position selected as well. Pinning is what seems to make it vanish.

Is WLM change picture fully implemented? Im not having any luck changing it. Im running build 8.0.07920.

Im also having problems with stuck album art. After a while it stops working and even a forced reload doesnt help. I have to reload the program. All my images are in ID3 tags if that helps.

You need a copy of Windows Messenger 5.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a8d9eb73-5f8c-4b9a-940f-9157a3b3d774&DisplayLang=en) installed for it to work.

that makes no sense. Why name a feature WLM if it doesnt work in WLM. I think you are probably wrong about this.

Look in this thread:

http://closetosoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=windows+messenger&start=15

It has to do with the API used. It will work for WLM.

well...its different if i update messenger to 5.1. Now it crashes if i try to update the picture in WLM :)

jakob,

Making the thing work it's hard.

WLM needs the old Windows Messenger installed in order to make some interactions with other applications possible. :(

Some users uninstalled the 4.x Messenger installed by XP.

So it's an issue not related to CAD.

This is my recommendation considering other users feedback:

- Uninstall CAD
- Uninstall Messenger
- Reboot :(
- Install Messenger (if you have the 4.x you can try it or just install the 5.x version)
- Reboot again :(
- Install CAD
- Make some tests

Good luck! :)

This isn't CAD's fault, it's Microsoft. They kinda left the API out of the latest versions of MSN Messenger and WLM too, but it still works (to some degree, many functions were removed) if you have Windows Messenger installed. Keep in mind that Windows Messenger ≠ Windows Live Messenger.

Hi,

I've got a problem although i've installed the last build : I use Winamp et most of my music is encoded in FLAC, but when I asked CAD to display the album name, it displays "unknown".

Moreover, for searching it searchs only the artist name with a space at the end probably because it didn't find the album name. So i have to add each time the album name to not have the cover of every album of the artists :/
Of course i can't tell it to download automatically the cover too.

PS : sorry for my english :P

The problem is that CAD can't read FLAC tag.

But there's a workaround: first you have to change the Winamp title setting: got to "Winamp preferences>Titles" and write the following Advanced Title Formatting:

[%artist% - ]$if2(%title%,$filepart(%filename%)) - [%album%]

CAD already use the first two parts to show artist and title when there isn't a tag and now it will use the third part to display the Album info from Winamp. Of course you files have to be tagged.

I think it's worth to at least try it. The search cover feature will also work better this way.

Some titles or artist name that has a " - " (including spaces) may cause a wrong reading but nothing is 100% perfect.
